Port Austin, Michigan – A Traveler’s Delight
Many times friends will tell me how lucky I am to live in Port Austin, Michigan. When I sit back and think about It I realize how right they are. Port Austin is located at the New Port Residences EC tip of the thumb in Michigan on the shores of Lake Huron. Being at the tip affords us the luxury of not only watching the sun rise over the water but watching it set, all from one location. Port Austin is a small town with about 800 residents. Although it is small there is always something to do.
Every Saturday from May to November there is a farmers market downtown with hundreds of vendors. Here you can buy everything from fresh baked goods to jewelry and hand made outdoor furniture. The market has been rated one of the best in Michigan.
The waters of Lake Huron offer excellent walleye and lake trout fishing. There are numerous charter boats docked in Port Austin that will provide a great day of fishing. If you have your own boat there is a state launch facility downtown. If you don’t have a boat there is a break wall extending into the lake that provides excellent fishing for perch, bass and walleye. The break wall also provides and ideal place for an evening walk.
